Mara Martin: Model Mom – Metropolitan Magazine

maximios Blog

1.7K

Q: Building a brand during a pandemic looked extremely different for many of us. How did it affect you as a mom and the brand you are building?

MM: I think it’s safe to say Covid really changed a lot of things for everyone. We all had to incorporate our work more at home and juggle both parenting and work-life at the same time. I will be first the first to admit that it wasn’t always easy. But during Covid and being at home more taught me really to be present and not take any opportunity for granted. Since going viral, we had been traveling almost on a weekly basis, so getting that chance to stay home for a bit and really be present in my day-to-day life was actually a nice change. I had to find new ways to build my brand, and I actually enjoyed showing more real-life things that go on daily in our house.

Q: How is 2021 going to look for Mara Martin? What can readers expect from you?

MM: I had been working on a ton of projects that kind of took a backseat and sudden halt once COVID-19 hit, so I’m excited to get back at it and see some of these projects come to fruition. I hope to finish the book I’ve been working on for almost two years and continue to grow my brand and inspire women everywhere.  I think 2021 is going to be quite the year!

Q:  As one of Palm Beach’s most visible residents what is about PB that attracts you the most?

MM: Palm Beach really has everything you could possibly ask for. The beaches have some of the clearest water, there is amazing shopping, great restaurants, and it truly feels like your on vacation every single day because of the weather. I have lived all over the country from Michigan, Los Angeles, New York, and Miami, and I have to say Palm Beach is my favorite.

Q:  Favorite Palm Beach restaurant?

MM: There are way too many to choose from to just choose one! So my top choices are Flagler Steakhouse for the best steak and Bice has the best pasta and beautiful outdoor seating area great for Instagram-worthy pictures.  The love Sant Ambroeus for their gelato and if you travel a little south, Lionfish has my favorite brunch!

Q: Best beauty treatment in town?

MM: I haven’t had time to try any of the spas out just yet because of Covid this last year, but I have heard amazing things about The Spa at the Breakers and Palm Beach Facials on Worth Avenue. Definitely can’t wait to get a facial and massage as soon as I have a day off.

Q: Best staycation in PB?

MM: We love doing staycations here in Palm Beach. Two of my favorite places are The Brazilian Court and a newer hotel called The White Elephant. Both have incredible amenities and really give you a feeling like you truly on vacation, even if you live just a few miles away like me.

Q: What’s next for Mara Martin?

MM: All I can say is that 2021 has a lot in store for me. And I’m just getting started! Stay tuned.

Spring Training Baseball – Metropolitan Magazine

The great thing about spring training is that you can sit a few feet from the field for 30 dollars a seat and see all the top players.  Because the major leaguers usually leave by the sixth inning, it is the one event that I typically leave before the final out.  Just some initial observations:  The St Louis Cardinals look awesome.

They now have two MVP candidates in the middle of their lineup in Goldschmidt and Arenado.  The Washington Nationals are interesting – they have added a number of veteran players to a team that one the pre-pandem-ic World Series.  The Astros received very little booing with re-spect to the cheating scandal of three years ago – Actually only a few players remain from Houston’s World Champion team (that was accused of banging on trash cans to tip pitches).

And he delivered – the county was thriving by every metric. President Donald J. Trump has been through attack after attack; he handles with a fight for truth.  He inspires people, which is a quality of an exceptional leader.  Historic, in fact.

What a thrill, from covering it all as a journalist on television to living and experiencing it first hand with a front row seat to American political history. Life on the campaign trail, the thousands of rallies, countless events that I joyfully hosted for President Trump, it was exhilarating and an honor as his Senior Advisor and his National Finance Chairwoman.

Annie Watt – Metropolitan Magazine

How did you first become interested in photography?

In my youth I found photography to be very expensive.  I  could only shoot 12 or up to 36 shots per roll of film. Instead I took to drawing and painting. When digital photography was born I jumped in shooting people, places and things I enjoyed.  I “won” many art competitions in High School for my drawing, including a 4-year scholarship to the School of Visual Arts where I studied drawing and painting, but not photography. I received a Bachelor of Fine Arts, went on the get my Masters in Art History. Becoming a professional photographer was not my vision. However, one day I was asked to photograph children with Autism for one of the parents. I discovered I could be helpful by the providing photos that captured the visual story of a wonderful after-school program for these children. I was “discovered” by a PR person who wanted to hired me for his clients because he liked my “eye” and I couldn’t say no to being paid to do what I discovered I loved doing.

Who inspires you?

I started my photography career at age 54 so I am particularly inspired by photographers who are working actively in their 80’s, such as was thecase with Bill Cunningham from the NY Times, and Harry Benson who has produced books and had a documentary on his life’s work. I always bring a small camera with me to events. Either my Panasonic Lumix or Sony and hand to it children to use to shoot. I give the children tips and tricks for better shots and let them enjoy the process.

Later, when I am editing my photos I find the children’s photos have a different point of view. I am very inspired by how they
approach a person or an object. I’m inspired by people with a passion to shoot…. at any age.

What projects are you working on presently?

Over the past few years my NYC-based Photographer Agency grew to a comfortable size of 18 photographers in various cities, including NY, Hamptons, Florida, Washington DC, Los Angeles, London and Italy. Now with the Pandemic and Covid I am re-inventing my business model in Florida while maintaining a strong presence in NY. All we need are for events to return to NYC and for me to find the skills and talent to represent in Florida. I will continue shooting but I also like to see other photographers working and acting their own managers. I can maintain the high standards that my clients come to expect from me. At the end of April 2021 the Colony Hotel is hosting my photography exhibition and the announcement that I am in Florida to stay. Will I travel? YES !

XO

Annie Watt
