If you’re longing for a grand tour of London and want the royal treatment, start where the royals shop. Want to find the best of the best in London? Simply follow the lead of London’s ultimate insider: Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.
But where would the monarch shop or stop for afternoon tea? Who makes Prince Charles’ suits or Camilla’s crazy hats? Where do Prince William and Kate get chocolate truffles or toys for Prince George and Princess Charlotte?
You don’t have to read the tabloids to sleuth such information. There’s a more civilized way to discover the royal favorites. Simply refer to the current list of Royal Warrants of Appointment, which you can find online.
A Royal Warrant is like a royal seal of approval. Businesses and individuals, from the queen’s favorite perfume maker to Prince Phillip’s tailors, are eligible for this coveted distinction. It’s like a royal appointment: Individuals and companies who have supplied goods or services for at least five years to the households of the queen, the duke of Edinburgh or the prince of Wales are eligible for Royal Warrants, and many of these companies have done business with royalty for centuries.
Royal Warrants demonstrate service, quality and excellence, so they are highly prized. Each is careful to maintain the quality of its products and services, or the Royal Warrant might not be renewed.
Since there are 800 Royal Warrant holders in all of England, you won’t have time to visit them all during your vacation, so here are my picks for a few of the top places in London that the royals (and I) recommend.
Let Them Eat Chocolate at Prestat
Take a London taxi to Piccadilly for your first Royal Warrant tour stop at the Princes Arcade, where you’ll find the sweetest thing: the colorful, whimsical shop of Prestat, the chocolatier which has been granted Royal Warrants by the queen and the late queen mother.
Founded by French émigré Antoine Dufour, whose family is credited with having invented the chocolate truffle in France in 1891, this sweet London business dates back to 1902. It also is known as the favorite chocolatier of “Charlie and The Chocolate Factory” author, Roald Dahl, who turned to Prestat for inspiration—and chocolate truffles.
Wear Blue to Fortnum & Mason
When I picture heaven, it looks a lot like Fortnum & Mason, the most enchanting department store on the planet. As you pass through the doors of 181 Piccadilly, you enter a world awash in extravagance and beauty, and it feels as though you’ve stepped back in time.
Founded as a grocery store in 1707, Fortnum & Mason is famed for its myriad choices of loose-leaf tea and luxury picnic hampers, as well as gourmet foods, fine clothing, china, fresh flowers, stationery and anything else you could ever want or imagine.
Fortnum & Mason’s signature color is the palest Georgian blue, and it’s featured throughout the store on everything from tea canisters to ladies scarves. When the queen, the duchess of Cambridge (Camilla) and the duchess of Cornwall (Kate) all took tea together at the London-based luxury department store five years ago, the queen wore Fortnum & Mason blue. The store, which has held numerous Royal Warrants in its more than 150-year history, employs more than 5,000 royal subjects.
Sweet Smell of Success at Penhaligon’s Ltd.
Penhaligon’s is a luxury British perfume house (for men and women) and is a tiny two-floor shop located in Burlington Arcade, a covered shopping arcade that runs behind Bond Street from Piccadilly to Burlington Gardens. Founded in the late 1860s by William Henry Penhaligon, perfumer to Queen Victoria, Penhaligon’s earned its first Royal Warrant in 1903.
Room with a View at the Goring Hotel
For one hundred years, the Goring family has owned a small luxury hotel that sits practically in Buckingham Palace’s backyard in the handsome Belgravia area. It’s that family tie and the Goring’s dedication to perfection that has garnered royal attention for the classy hotel.
The coronations of George VI and the present queen saw the hotel filled with foreign royalty attending these great occasions. The Goring pastry chef made Prince Charles’ christening cake when he was a baby, and when Kate Middleton spent the night before her Westminster Abby nuptials, she, her mother and her sister shared the luxurious royal suite and booked the entire hotel for family and friends. When heads of state, presidents, celebrities and royalty come to London, many stay at the Goring as well.
To learn more about the Royal Warrant Holders, visit RoyalWarrant.org, and for more about all the exciting things London has to offer, see VisitLondon.com and VisitEngland.com, and VisitBritain.com. Visit the Goring online at TheGoring.com.

“On Saturday, we had a bunch of people over for dinner and I baked two cakes,” says Tracy Anderson of her weekend at home in Sag Harbor. “One was a vanilla caramel cake and one was chocolate. I really like to bake.” Then she laughs and says, “They were gluten-free, but they were definitely not sugar-free!” This is not what you might expect from fitness guru Tracy, who has built a global wellness empire and is known for sculpting the bodies of everyone from Gwyneth Paltrow to Jennifer Lopez. But once you get to know Tracy, you discover that not only does she have a sweet tooth (she always carries a stash of organic chocolate with her), she firmly believes that wellness is all about balance.
Living in Sag Harbor is integral to this balance. Tracy’s busy schedule takes her around the world, but she always returns to her happy place. When we sit down for our interview on a gray, balmy Monday morning, the mother of two has just spent the weekend with her five-year-old daughter, Penny, along with Panda, their long-haired Chihuahua puppy, at her Hampton’s home. The workout expert cherishes her weekends here because her weekdays are often jam-packed. Straight after our interview, she’s heading to Philadelphia, then New York City the following day, and Los Angeles on Friday. “Spending time with my family is the most relaxing thing to me,” says Tracy, 42, who also has a son, Sam, 18. “I probably filmed Penny dancing for a straight hour and a half on my phone yesterday. That was like meditation for me.” She continues, “We like to paddle board and do things outside, like go on little hikes, but mostly we pretty much stay home and just have fun.”
The summers are especially busy for Tracy because she has two studios in the Hamptons – one in Water Mill, which she’s had for many years, and a second in East Hampton, which opened two years ago. “It’s off to a very busy start,” says the entrepreneur, who is most famous for developing the Tracy Anderson Method. “A lot of people who come to the Hamptons in the summer, they really take off from work. That’s not my reality because I work all summer, but it’s nice that my team and I can actually work outside on our computers.”
The big news in Tracy’s world is her new East 59th Street flagship in Manhattan – housed in a former movie theater; it debuted in March this year. “What we’ve accomplished is really stunning,” she enthuses, frequently crediting her team who developed the studio. “It’s like an amazing ‘wellness haven’ where you get everything in a really authentic way. It’s my favorite studio that I’ve ever opened.” This will be the model for many more studios opening over the next few years. “We’re really setting the stage,” says Tracy.
As well as offering classes and private training, the space has TA Café, which serves up organic coffee and smoothies as well as salads, soups, sandwiches and pasta. “The café is really exciting for us because we have the fitness perfected, and how you eat and how you move go hand in hand,” says Tracy, who recently launched two new flavors of her organic TA Ultimate Clear Bars in Target. For the TA Café menu, she teamed up with her long-time friend and business partner Gwyneth Paltrow, who helped develop the menu. “The nice thing about Gwyneth and I, it’s like when you’ve been married to someone for a decade – you know if they don’t like mayonnaise,” she laughs, explaining that she can often predict what Gwyneth does or doesn’t like.
Another significant woman in Tracy’s life is Jennifer Lopez, who is her only celebrity private client these days. They train together as often as possible, and Tracy always has one of her trainers travel with the 47-year-old singer. Just last week, Tracy trained with Jennifer in New York City, and she also works with her in Los Angeles and Las Vegas. “I train her all over the place, and she comes to the Hamptons in the summer,” explains Tracy. “She’s a sweetheart, and she’s so giving and smart. She’s such a good mom and really nurturing; she’s kind of just the ultimate woman.”
Don’t be surprised if there are some big names on Tracy’s new radio show on SiriusXM, launching June 19. “I really don’t ever pimp out my clients on Instagram or anything like that. It’s just not my style,” she says. “But we are booking a lot of people that I have worked with over the years who are pretty influential.” The Tracy Anderson Show will air on Mondays at noon with a different guest and topic for discussion each week. It’s the first time that Tracy has hosted a show, and she’s excited about having a new voice. “I hate elevators more than anything because I’ve had very bad experiences with them. And they were like, ‘Listen, we want to offer you this show, but you’re going to have to take an elevator.’ When I agreed, I realized that I wanted to do it pretty badly,” she says.
Penny actually brought into my life the one lesson that I was never able to learn: she taught me to stand up for myself
What has made Tracy a stronger person is having her daughter, Penny, who recently celebrated her fifth birthday with “a massive kids’ dance party” at Tracy’s Water Mill studio. “Penny actually brought into my life the one lesson that I was never able to learn for myself: she taught me to stand up for myself,” says Tracy. “I’d always been bad at it; I’m not a confrontational person – up until having Penny. But there’s nothing like bringing a little daughter into this world… She really made my voice get strong.”
Penny is well versed in Tracy’s Hamptons morning routine and often asks, “Mommy, are you going to go dance with the ladies?” For the past couple of summers, Tracy has changed up her workout gear. This began when her teenage son, Sam, who is graduating high school and preparing for college in New York City in the fall, asked her, “Mom, do you think you can not wear bikinis around my friends, please? Because it really bothers me when they say you look hot.” Tracy went and bought several one-piece bathing suits and started wearing them to classes with sweatpants over them so she could run home and jump straight into the pool with her kids.
During the summer, Tracy enjoys hosting close friends at her home. “It’s kind of like a day of swimming turns into a barbecue,” she says. “Or we love to go out to eat. We have a few local spots that we like.” Her favorite place in Sag Harbor is Italian restaurant Dopo La Spiaggia, where her go-to dish is the poached Branzino. Back in New York City, Tracy’s new favorite place to eat is Cosme, world-famous chef Enrique Olvera’s contemporary Mexican restaurant. “I ate everything, I think! Their guacamole is beyond, and every single gluten-free dish is so good,” says Tracy, whose only two diet rules are gluten-free and organic when possible.
Looking forward, Tracy is taking her first vacation for as long as she can remember at the end of July. “I am taking a total check-out vacation for the first time in so long,” she says of the eight-day trip to an undisclosed destination. “I cannot tell you my last proper vacation. Everything is work-cation for me, for many years. It was a big deal for me to take three days at Easter and go see my brother. I legitimately have been out of balance in the vacation department for a really long time.”
While Tracy is certainly in need of some downtime, don’t expect her to be slowing down anytime soon. Her growing brand encompasses six studios in New York and Los Angeles (with more in the pipeline), dozens of fitness DVDs, sportswear and exercise equipment, a line of nutritional bars, the new radio show, and, of course, her global real-time video-streaming service, which reaches subscribers in more than 50 countries worldwide. However, her aim during her 18-year career has never been to take over the world. “If anything, I would like to be connecting the world through health, being a supporter and a leader,” she says passionately. “To really help people let their own light shine. My mission is not to take over anything, but to take it on.”

When New York Night Owls in Times Square are winding up their nights, FOX Business Network Anchor Cheryl Casone is usually getting into work.
“Times Square is very entertaining…at 2:45AM. You see it all you really see it. A lot of the times when I’m coming to work people are just leaving the bars so I see the tail end of the night before , put it that way. Also the streets are empty and that’s kind of cool because you don’t see that.”
The City That Never Sleeps also provides Casone with plenty of business news stories.
I really love hosting the first show of the day because it’s the first shot at the news.
Casone co-hosts FBN:AM beginning at 5AM/ET where she is first to report on the state of the US economy:
“Nationally, things have gotten a lot better, you’ve got less regulation, the tax package that just got passed has helped a lot of lower income workers in other states you with bonuses and better wages – so that’s a good thing… you’ve got unemployment now at 3.8 per cent, incomes are rising – not as much as we would like to see but wages are better- retirement accounts are better-looking based on how the markets have done, the numbers are there to support that- whatever your politics are-that the economy is doing better because of things like less regulation and pro-business policies. Seeing GDP consistently above 2 percent – means the economy is definitely a lot stronger.”
… on the current mood of Wall Street:
I think anything that is a fiscally conservative policy, Wall Street is going to like no matter if it is coming from the Governor, the Mayor or the President. So, if you are a fiscal conservative you believe in less regulation and pro-business policies so those are the two things they want from anyone.
…and important business trends to look out for:
“We talk about it every day on the show… honestly, technology. that train is going down the track like a high speed locomotive and it’s not stopping whether it’s robotics, artificial intelligence, or transportation. We’re talking about flying taxis by 2020! That can all be a reality and it will be. Technology is just completely changing everything and how we live our lives. Do you go to a store anymore of just order on Amazon?”
“I’ve been hosting FBN:AM at FOX Business Network for a year now. I really love hosting the first show of the day because it’s the first shot at the news. I love being first! (laugh). So much news is happening right now you just never know what is happening overnight so I really love the fact that I’ve got that show and it’s going really well! We’ve really seen our audience grow and our ratings have moved up a lot, quite substantially, in just the past year so I’m really proud of that.”
A former flight attendant , right out of college, Casone parlayed that personal work experience to become one of Fox’s most knowledgeable reporters on the Airline Industry as a whole.
“I appreciate that my colleagues whether it is Tucker Carlson or Stuart Varney lean on me for aviation stories. I appreciate it because it’s another part of my past life I can bring here. I don’t love checked bag fees any more than anybody else or the delays and there are all kinds of bad things about travel but I do still have a fondness for the airline industry.”
As for working in New York City, Casone couldn’t be happier.
“It is a dream come true for me – I was a business reporter in San Francisco at Channel 4 KRON-TV – and I loved my time in San Francisco, but I would sit and watch Maria Bartiromo on TV and I really wanted to be in New York because this is the center of the world when it comes to business, finance, banking and Wall Street so when I finally got here in 2004- that was the ultimate goal. And I still love New York. I actually live on the Upper West Side of New York now but I just love all of Manhattan. I think this is going to be a permanent place for me to live now. I just love that you meet so many people from different cultures and there is so much to do here. Months can go by where I don’t even leave Manhattan. It’s crazy!”
Casone not only gets to work beside the talented Maria Bartiromo, she also gets to work with aforementioned elder statesman and much beloved FOX Business Network host, Stuart Varney. One of the true class acts in the Broadcast Business.
“I’ve known Stu for years…I adore him I call him Stu, I love him. He’s one of the first people I met when I came to the Fox News Channel in 2006 I joined the FNC a year before we launched the business network so he was the first person I met in the building that day. I call him my first friend!”
One thing Casone doesn’t get to do with many of her friends is…enjoy late night dinners!
“I host a 5am show, I get up at 2am every day… all my friends are like “can you get off this schedule” and I’m say no I really like what I’m doing… I like a morning show and I do both of our morning shows. I go to bed at 6pm that ‘s really the only thing that gets tough – I don’t have a social life at night but it’s fine. It’s a funny conversation because people say “when do you go to bed” and I reply 6pm (laugh) so they want to go have dinner and I’m asking can you do that dinner at 3pm? 3:30pm?”
Being a hard worker committed to her craft- no matter what the hour- is something Casone credits to her parents and her home state of Texas.
“I was definitely raised with a strong work ethic my grandfather owned and operated a meat processing company – you know we worked hard our family, my father was the same way… you work hard- you commit- you are an upstanding citizen- I think a lot of my values as a person come from being a Texan and I still consider myself a Texan… now when I get off the plane in Dallas I keep thinking to myself why is everybody being so nice to me? (laugh) Because that’s the thing about Texas, you know? That southern charm is a true thing.”
FOX Business has even let Casone keep up with the Joneses of the NFL.
“FOX Business has allowed me to report on the business of sports and I’ve covered five Super bowls now. I’m a Football junkie and a huge Dallas Cowboys fan (laugh) I’ve gotten to meet some of my football heroes …I met Roger Staubach, I was like wow hello wow….getting to know Jerry Jones…Charlotte Jones, his daughter who is now one of the most powerful women in the NFL ..that’s been a really fun piece of the journey for me… oh Joe Theisman…I was having coffee with him – Troy Aikman that was a fun one …and Dan Marino, Dan Marino is a hoot , love him.”
Sports Reporter Casone is actually quite an athlete herself.
“It’s been really fun for me because I also do triathlons and marathons so I really can kind of get that other part of my life fulfilled. We sponsor the 2XU New York City Triathlon every summer, FOX Business does, so what’s cool about that is that not only do I compete in the triathlon every year but my colleague and I, Liz Claman do some good. She’s a big supporter and champion fundraiser for “Building Homes for Heroes”,a local charity that builds custom homes for veterans, so that’s another fun side of it. On a personal level I actually get to do the sport and then we do segments on the triathlon and Liz does segments about some of the veterans that have been helped by some of her work.”
Like most New Yorkers Casone is in love with Central Park.
“I consider Central Park my savior because I didn’t grow up in NYC or the East Coast- to be out in the park, I’m out there probably 4-5 days a week, gives me sanity, just because I love the trees! And since I’m a runner and a tri-athlete, for me to have that park is a mental savior. I look at Central Park as the gift that just keeps on giving!”
An always busy reporter, Casone says that after a long day that there’s nothing better than curling up with Milo… her rescue cat! Yep. Casone, who is a major supporter of the ASPCA and North Shore Animal League, along with her famous pal Beth Stern, readily admits she is a cat person.
“Milo is a street cat from the Bronx. One of my friends was teaching up there and there were stray cats that were living on the roof of this building and one day she kept seeing this little tiny kitten just sitting there by himself. She finally just walked up and grabbed him and called me and said “I have a cat.” So, now I have a cat. (laugh) I’m definitely an animal person for sure. We had 25 cats at one point on my Grandfather’s farm in Texas when I was a kid. Guess I’m stuck with it!”
But more than anything, Casone is a people-person, dedicated as an anchor to helping her viewers understand business- and as an author of the critically acclaimed business book, “The Comeback: How Today’s Moms Reenter the Workplace Successfully” to helping people, women and baby boomers in particular, keep the American Economy going strong—by working!
“The book (The Comeback) actually came out of my work at FOX because I was doing weekly segments on FOX & Friends, when unemployment was at 10 percent. The Comeback is about how to help people find jobs—my whole brand for a while, at least with those segments on FOX & Friends, was to find people work…people were struggling to find anything and it was during the recession –which was caused by Wall Street as we all know and so the segment just really took off and people just started to ask me on the street or in the airports for advice. I would get emails from people who were saying: “hey, could you look at my resume and I’ve got this much experience” and so I sort of really started getting into helping people find work.”
Working in the private event industry means finding yourself in a lot of unique spaces. While most elicit “oohs” and “ahhhs”, some require hard hats and good handwashings. Like many creative industries, events allows you to define your own schedule, though really that translates to having to be always on. When there is downtime, it’s hard to not want to match the character of the venues I find in my events.
My favorite local haunts tend to be of the more private persuasion. Cavernous-like with secret spots and spacious lounges for entertaining. Fortunately, New York City is ripe with discrete yet bold and unique spots.
Leading with an oldie but still goodie, Norwood, the Chelsea-based private arts club; is great for winding down at after an eventful night, as well as networking and schmoozing clients. The multi-floor club, located in a repurposed townhouse, boasts the best bartenders, a delicious rotating seasonal menu that always hits the spot, live music, a curated and ever-changing art collection and the City’s top creatives, all under one prewar roof.
The National Arts Club is also a fabulous space to attend an event. Watch for their yearly milliner’s ball. And if you can find someone with a membership to the Friar’s Club – a magically gilded place full of fun “old New York” types, with stories that could go on for many evenings – go! Open to the public but also off the beaten path you’ll find jazz at KGB’s Red Room and wild nights at places like Kitty’s Speakeasy, The Box, Duane Park and Von. Newly opened AMAYA – Mezcal Social Club is RSVP only, but worth it!
For creatives and partiers alike, I recommend following what’s happening at the Caden Collective. They host in their multiple beautifully renovated spaces everything from popups and film premieres to list-only concerts and private parties. Daytime they make their spaces available to musicians, artists and the fashion industry for film and video shoots, as well as meetings and collaborations.
Although only a bridge ride away, Manhattan and Brooklyn are worlds apart. I typically avoid the college campus feel of the Bedford Ave strip of Williamsburg and venture further in, or along the water. For Mexican food lovers, Cantina Royal, located next to ACME Studios offers a cool vibe, great people watching and an amazing selection of dishes and hot sauces. The Owl Music Parlor is a must for intimate live music performances, you’ll find everything from classical, instrumental and experimental to folk and rock bands. House of Yes is quickly becoming a pop culture icon, though fortunately, their mantra is avoiding exclusivity and with a little line wait, anyone can still get in.
Murmurr theater is also new on the scene, one of the more beautiful new spaces, the venue is located in an old synagogue. You’ll also never go wrong with a show at National Sawdust, Trans Pecos, Market Hotel, Issue Project Room or Brooklyn Steel. Barwise, for me Brooklyn is all about the dive bar Freddy’s Lounge and Barroom, the Abbey, Hollow Nickel, Brooklyn Inn, Hank’s Saloon (closing 2018) and Sharlene’s are a few of my favorites.
As for finding your way into one of my private parties – you can “RSVP” to my list @ nyceventpro.com.
Currently in the works – a collaboration with NoHo Sound to open early 2019 a multi-level space including a high-end audio showroom, record listening cafe and indoor/outdoor event venue in Manhattan. (Shh!) In the meantime, be sure to join their list for multi-genre music showcases and other performances in their current Cooper Square location.
